About YoHAAP YoHAAP, Youth and HIV/AIDS Awareness Project Is a project aiming at creating awareness on HIV AIDS among the rural communities with particular focus on the youth. This is a project implemented through partnership with the YOHAAP groups which are made up of young Women and Men drawn from a cross section of farmers, students, teachers and community opinion leaders. The fact that HIV/AIDS continues to affect the youth more than any other sector compelled BROSDI to think of a possible solution to reduce the HIV AIDS prevalence among the youth because BROSDI encourages community initiatives geared towards creating positive change. BROSDI supports the implementing groups with training in group development, business planning and management skills, computers and regular monitoring of group activities. Training in HIV/AIDS related issues is conducted by external trainers either hired by BROSDI or volunteering organizations like Marie stopes International. Since HIV/AIDS awareness cannot enable the youth groups generate income to sustain their activities, BROSDI awards each qualifying group a grant to help them invest in an income generating project. PROJECT GOAL
The youth and HIV AIDS awareness project aims at creating awareness on HIV AIDS among the rural communities with particular focus on the youth. This is a project implemented through partnership with youth groups, which are made up of young Women and Men drawn from a cross section of farmers, students, teachers and opinion leaders from the community. Youth and HIV/ AIDS Awareness Project brings together rural youth who engage in peer-to-peer community geared towards creating positive change among the communities. The age group most affected by HIV/AIDS is 13 – 30 years and continues to take lead. Encouraging these peers to address a challenge is based on the concept that when an adult is communicating HIV/AIDS concerns to a youth, the level of openness and communication form is strained as compared to a peers advising and discussing similar issues. |
